Belafonte's debut album released december 2009
Belafonte totally lost track of time crawling around in an underground lair with microphones, midi cables, the occasional jazz musician and a lot of coffee. Our eyes will take some time adjusting to daylight again. While we were underground we concocted the debut album we are about to release. After all this time we are utterly unrecognizable, even to our closest families. We can only ask them to forgive us and hopefully want us again. We are still decent people, though we are a little high on oxygen right now. Do the names Styrmir Sigurdsson and Sara Marti Gudmundsdottir not even ring a bell?
On the album Styrmir composed songs and fiddled around with stuff, pianos and computers. Sara's role was clearly breathing life into the whole thing. Doing so she mostly applied her soul which is conveniently connected to her voice. We also had great help from truly beautiful people: drummers Helgi Svavar Helgason and Sigtryggur Baldursson, bassists: Andri Olafsson and Johann Asmundsson, guitarists Steingrímur Eyfjord Gudmundsson and Daniel Fridrik Bodvarsson. Eirikur Stephensen on saxophone and Unnur Birna Bjornsdottir being a whole string section. Thank you so very much! Your visits and gifts made years spent in a hole seem like only months.
